Visual & Motor Perception Challenges

Visual motor and visual perception skills affect how children process what they see and coordinate their bodies to complete everyday tasks. When these skills are difficult, activities like handwriting, reading, math, sports, puzzles, and classroom work can quickly become frustrating and overwhelming.

Maybe your child struggles with messy handwriting, spacing letters correctly, copying from the board, organizing numbers in math problems, catching a ball, or finding items in busy environments. Some children work incredibly hard in school but still seem to have difficulty with tasks that involve visual processing, coordination, and motor planning.

Children with visual motor and visual perception challenges may:

  • Have messy or difficult-to-read handwriting

  • Struggle with letter sizing, spacing, or formation

  • Have difficulty drawing shapes, letters, or pictures

  • Struggle to copy from worksheets or the board

  • Have trouble organizing numbers in math problems

  • Lose their place while reading or tracking words on a page

  • Struggle with puzzles or visual activities

  • Have difficulty catching, throwing, or hitting a ball

  • Struggle to find items in cluttered or busy environments

  • Have difficulty understanding spatial concepts and body awareness

At mOTivated Kids, we take a whole-child approach to understanding visual motor and visual perception difficulties. We look at the sensory, visual, motor, coordination, and postural skills that may be impacting your child’s success across environments.

Our pediatric occupational therapy sessions are individualized, engaging, and designed to help children build the foundational skills needed for greater confidence, independence, coordination, and academic participation.

We believe children make the most progress when they feel supported, successful, and understood. That is why therapy at mOTivated Kids is playful, relationship-based, and tailored to your child’s unique strengths and challenges.

We also work closely with parents so you better understand what is contributing to your child’s struggles and how to support them outside of therapy sessions.
